New Writing North also operates a number of book groups around the region in Berwick upon Tweed, Hexham, Whitley Bay, Newcastle (both lunchtime and evening), Sunderland, Middlesbrough and Darlington. We also run The Poetry Room, a specialist poetry reading group in Newcastle. You can read all about the groups on their individual blogs, which are linked from www.newwritingnorth.com. The groups are all co-ordinated by a reader in residence who hosts meetings and introduces books. The books are chosen by New Writing North and include new titles by North East authors (who are sometimes available to visit the groups to discuss their work) and previews of new books with early copies direct from the publishers, as well as work in translation and short stories. Our focus is on contemporary literary writing.

We are also developing a number of affiliate groups across the region. Affiliate groups read along with selected books and benefit from any promotions on books or events along with the core groups but they are self-managed by volunteer co-ordinators. If you’d like to set up an affiliated group in your workplace or locally, please contact olivia@newwwritingnorth.com.
